Summerside to Charlottetown (and back to Summerside)

After a great 3 days in Summerside, we set off Wednesday July 29th for Charlottetown, the last leg of our journey.  The conditions were good as we got out of the harbour to make way for the Confederation bridge.  The bridge is quite close to Summerside and we were on the approach in less than an hour.  The bridge is a majestic sight.  It is 12 km long and is the world's longest bridge over icy waters.

It took us a little over 3 hours cruising at 15 knots to arrive in Charlottetown.  The channel in to the harbour is quite a long way in.  We arrived at Quartermaster Marina early afternoon and put on quite a show for the tourists.  The marina told us to dock on Cow's wall (right in front of the ice cream shop) in an extremely tight spot.  Sterling did an amazing job basically parallel docking a 45 foot boat in a tight space.  I was panicked as we literally only had millimetres to spare.  A stressful start to our stay in Charlottetown.

The original plan was to stay in Charlottetown 12 days and leave the boat there for the rest of the season.  However, the location right outside Peakes Quay bar was not great, the marina had no facilities and a poor slip for us.  So we decided we would return to Summerside after the weekend instead.

Peggy, Gerard, Ella, Abby and Heather, James, Quintin and Ben all came to Charlottetown to join us for the weekend.  We had a great time and managed to sleep all 11 people comfortably.  We anchored out on Saturday and swam off the platform.  Then on Sunday, Sterling, Gerard and James moved the boat back to Summerside and the rest of us went to the beach.

It was a great weekend.  So much fun.

We have now become members of the Summerside Yatch Club and Knotica 3 has found her east coast home.

We are loving spending the final days of our vacation visiting the island's many wonderful beaches.
